And what a great playwright he was!
Ola Rotimi* with his flowery characters
In "The Gods are not to blame"
King Odewale prodded on by anger, ego and "the gods"
descended into a path of self-destruction
But maybe in this case
the gods(INEC**) is not solely to blame
Or why blame INEC
When our politicians and their proxies self-engineer violence?
And the "opele"***"( Sec.26, Electoral Act) divines postponement
if the violence occurs prior to the election
And punishes only the proxies (Sec. 129, Electoral Act)
when the violence is during elections
Why blame INEC
when money becomes a barter for votes?
And the outcome is expected to be credible
Let offer supplications to the gods
But more importantly
Let appease the power players.
* Ola Rotimi was an exceptionally gifted Nigerian playwright whose works resonates with the cultural expressions of the Yoruba people of South West, Nigeria.
** Independent National Electoral Commission
* * * Opele is an instrument of divination amidst the Ifa Traditional Worshippers.
